The Grand Canyon was a place where the Havasupai used to live. When you hike down Bright Angel Trail you’re following in the footsteps of countless Indigenous people. It's important that we know this place was someone’s home long before the U.S. Government declared it a national park. The United States has a long and sad history of Indigenous people being forced off their land. I have gone to the Grand Canyon before and its a very beautiful place but just thinking how the way you connect to the land is the same way Natives connected to it. Its very sad to know that there land was taken from them and made a National park but I will always appreciate the beauty of the mountains and how they created themselves.
